My sincere wish is that the swing district voters have the integrity and critical reasoning ability that Ryan lacks. Placing party over country. My goodness what a travesty!

Conservative pundit David Brooks pointed out that it was a sad day for Ryan, morally AND politically. (I’ve never had anything but contempt for that trickle-down con artist Ryan, and this doesn’t change MY mind about him, though I’m sure it will change plenty of others.)

Politicians are followers, not leaders. When trends shift, they jump in front of the line that is already headed in that direction and yell, “follow me.” In a sense that’s how democracy should be. The problem comes when the masses are ignorant, bigoted, and emotionally disturbed. If a progressive, enlightened leader had arose in the South in the 60’s to challenge Stennis or Eastland or Russel or Thurmond, what chance would he have stood to be elected? In fact, if one arose today, what chance would he have? Until hatred, bigotry, narrow-mindedness, ignorance, paranoia cease to be, there will always be politicians to fit the bill and so now we have; Trump!

“The GOP hasn’t any real American leaders left…”IMO, Everett Dirksen was the Last Decent Republican. Before some ignoramus tries to pretend that Democrats weren’t the chief backers & architects of Civil Rights, I’ll point out that the vote was largely divided by regional, not political lines. There weren’t many southern Republicans at the time, but they all voted against. A majority of Democrats supported the Bill & they provided more of the votes than Republicans. There were enough Southern Democrats opposed that the Bill couldn’t pass without some Republican support & fortunately, Dirksen recognized it as basic fairness. Soon after, the GOP transformed from the Party of Lincoln into the natural home of the type of people who used States’ Rights as an excuse for slavery.

I’m reminded of the scene in “Blazing Saddles” where Clevon holds his own gun to his head, but the Republicans seem ready to pull the trigger.

Fox and Rush have been preparing you for this moment. W was nothing compared to what we can do to this country. Remember it’s not Hillary, so no matter what he does, it is okay. I’m sure he’ll restore straight white man rules to the good old USA, he’s not going to just bilk this for all it’s worth.
