You hippies for Bernie have to face reality – America will never elect a socialist as President. The right wing have poisoned the word “socialism” and made it synonymous in people’s minds with communism. Trump would win in a landslide as soon as he started running commercials with Bernie dressed as Chairman Mao saluting a hammer & sickle flag.

Good to see no cartoonist is too delusional to outpace at least a handful of foil-wrapped fans.

In counterpoint to this – My wife who has always voted for Democrats except Reagan in 80 is going to Cross Over and Vote for Donald Trump.

She has little use of Hillary either. I hope their are many more like my wife out there that see how destructive the Obama policies have been for this country. Hillary will just double down on the stupid and the soft.

@OldCoal – She is just fine but thank you for your concern. She is a smart, educated lady with whom I have disagreed on politics for years. She has voted for Democrats for years because she believed they were supporting the little “guy”. But Obama and the Illinois Democrats have convinced her that they are really about buying votes by taking her hard earned income and dolling it out to the indolent and the incompetent.

I look forward to the Productive and the Industrious being unyoked from the useless when Trump gets into power.

I don’t understand the John Adams quip at all. Since everything relating to governmental money takes place in the Congress, and since Congress requires a majority (or sometimes super-majority) to accomplish anything, two parties, duking it out, is the inevitable default position. The country could probably be more accurately represented by four or so parties, but then you have gridlock. That’s why so many conservatives advocate for smaller government, often to deaf ears within the Republican party.

Ranked choice voting, including the elimination of party-specific primaries, would make this whole disaster moot. I’d especially like to see what happens when “strategic” voting becomes pointless.

Actually CrowNobo – The Republicans count on Democrats voting for a Candidate that will work for the Middle Class and not her Wall Street Supporters.

I can’t imagine why someone would vote for Hillary if they work on Main street. She has decided a long time ago that as long as Wall Street is doing OK then everyone is doing OK.

You know that’s it’s gone wrong when personality replaces ideas in politics.Even if we had fair district calculations, mandatory voting, apolitical ranked proportional voting, and publicly funded campaigning, we would still have problems as long as there is the perception of winning and then asserting an ideology to govern the populace. We need to trust each other, accept that people with different ideologies can love America too, and cooperate with each other to do the hard work to solving problems not deferring them. A unilaterally led congress has not shown any evidence of being a solution to any of our long standing problems.As our constitution stands, a felon can hold office and the only qualifications for elected federal office are varying degrees of age and citizenship. Instead of elevating the standards, the political parties have attracted the power seekers and barred entry for those who would actually endure the rigors of the critical thinking to arrive at solutionsthat would work in the long term.

Strategic voting has always been pointless with regard to the outcome of elections, but it makes the voters who practice it feel savvy and important. This is especially gratifying to marginal-group voters such as those who call themselves ‘progressives’, since they can have endless discussions and arguments about it, producing great quantities of verbiage.

I can’t imagine my disgust for Trump can be outdone by an Dem’s concerns.
