There was a “Wizard of Id” comic many years ago where the cowardly knight Sir Rodney comes across a Yield sign. He kneels in front of it and tries to surrender.

Most drivers in the US have no idea what that little stick on the steering wheel column is either(turn signal) and never seem curious enough to try it out and see.
