The “Great USA” is not able to crack the phone.. Ouch. Send it to Russia or China and I bet they would have it opened in minutes.

Unlike private companies and corporations who hire just about anybody with a preference for relatives and friends, the representatives we have elected have put in place, (based on their in-depth knowledge of current technology), rigorous screening processes and hire only a select few, top of their game, experts to run our lean, six sigma style agencies at top efficiency and would have no problem quietly decrypting an outdated smart phone.

The problem is that after 10 failed logins, the data is destroyed. The Feds want Apple to write a program defeating that software so the Feds can use their usual procedures to break in. Apple complains that if they create it, everyone will get it. I would think they could write it on a standalone computer and then delete it, but I guess they think once the government has it, they’ll use it in any phone they want.

If Tim Cook lost a parent or loved one in San Bernardino, I wonder what he would do? My guess— it would have been open sesame’d a month ago.

Seriously, anyone who puts anything on their phone that they do not want others to see is a fool. The privacy laws are so far behind the times that they think “wiretapping” still requires wires. Don’t put it out there, and the government won’t get it.
