Get your terminology right. It’s called an “antimacassar,” and when people stopped using macassar oil in their hair, it became largely ornamental. But there’s no reason not to expect skin oils to cause staining of cloth once the oils leave the invisible skin, or are allowed to age when exposed to the air. These questions are boring.
