Kitties that are mousers (most of them) are not ratters. Cats and rats are natural enemies, not predator and prey. I did have a rat cat once. She was all of 7 pounds at her heaviest and usually ignored mice. Rats were a different story, she would snap their necks in no time. Playing with them is not an option! She would also bring me juvie rattlesnakes when we lived in Colorado. She would always bring them to me live then kill them in front of me. She liked big game like rabbits and squirrels. Once we moved out of the country (she was about 10) her hunting was over. She lived to be 20-1/2 years old. The greatest friend I’ve ever had.
