Lots of fun, indeed. We would sled on a farmers hill and he would chase us off with a pitchfork. He couldn’t catch us and we’d be back. We didn’t hurt anything. Nowadays we’d be in jail and our parents would get visits from Child Services.

It’s not just helicopter parents, these days if you let your kid be alone to long someone will complain and DCFS will take your kids and throw you in jail for neglect.

If the parents were there when we went sledding, they would have stopped us from going down the side of the ravine and across the creek to smash into the snowdrift — ahhhh, memories!

it was fun. but, fear crept in. and, people reacted to the fear. americans became fearful of everything(real, existential, and imaginary).

Hey, I remember some hair raising runs down “Devil’s Backbone” in the 50’s and I’m still here! Oh, ya, every place that had sledding hills had a “Devil’s Backbone”! “I dare ya to go down THAT way!”

even in the 70s we usually had parents around – they were the one’s that had the cars to take us to the big hills!

When I was a kid in the summer I’d leave the house about 9 AM and wouldn’t be back until supper. All us kids played in the street and somebody’s mom had her head out the window at all times. It didn’t matter if it was your own mom. If you misbehaved, your mom would get a phone call.

People have become fearful of almost everything. When they try to alleviate the fear, they take away freedoms. The future is change, bad things (and many good) will happen.
