This would imply those extended UI are paid for. I thought they were paid for using Bushonian physics which means they’re free, isn’t that why the Republicans opposed it (since they wanted them to be paid for, supposedly)? As long as we use magic money we don’t have to pay for it.

Huh… still makes sense to me, but I’m nutty.

Sentence 1: Comic says taxpayers are paying benefits. This would imply PAYGO

Sentence 2: “Bushonian Physics” was a play at the unpaid for actions of the previous administration (PAYGO had expired), and that this bill was passed outside of PAYGO meaning it’s “outside of the budget.” It was supposedly this reasoning as to why “fiscally responsible Republicans” were standing against it… .

Sentence 3: Have your cake and eat it, too, and not pay for it.

We are not broke – deep in debt, but 70% of that was done by the GOP, and a lot Obama’s spending is to try to fix the mess Bush created (still paying for those two wars, and the billions he borrowed from China), but what would really help is if everyone just said “You know a lot of us Americans are out of a job and can’t find work, so lets do something about it even if it costs millions because, well because they are Americans and so are we.”

To put it in terms the Conservatives just might understand, because this is something that is outside their relm of thinking – Let’s just pretend that the people in need are rich, after all Conservatives understand helping the rich.

No sense of community, exactly. The working class exists to keep the GOP and their buddies in power. They have no problem with a war to secure gas rights in the Middle East and not only do they not pay for it, but they cut taxes on their fat cat buddies at the same time. They take the rules off on Wall Street to fatten at that trough, too, and when it all falls apart … well, it’s the unemployeds own fault. Clinton repaired what Ronnie had done to the economy, but the Bushies did far worse and now the GOP is proudly making sure it never gets fixed.

Well, Clinton should get some of the responsibility for the Glass-Steagal repeal, to be fair. It was a bipartisan delusion that it was no longer useful ;) . Unfortunately, it is one that still holds some sway.

““Pay the man” then blame Bush.”

Hey, just because it’s used often doesn’t mean it’s not true ;) .

This is not hard to figure out. Remember, President Obama’s idea of stimulating the economy is kin to the idea that you can add oil to an engine by draining it out of the pan and then adding it back in the top.

This is the government way, sadly. They have tried for 40 years to throw money at a problem money cannot solve. The absence of money is only a single symptom of poverty and throwing money at it addresses the symptom while leaving the cause of the problem unsolved. This is the chief reason why the government’s so-called “War on Poverty” is a miserable failure.

It is much like giving a person a blood transfusion and never stopping the bleeding.
