Cathy Classics by Cathy Guisewite for August 08, 2010
Transcript:
HER: Cathy: Saturated fats...Trans fats...Total fats...Calories...Carbs...Sugars... HIM: Irving: Whatever. Cathy: You bought fat-free ice cream?? Irving: I did? Oh. I just grabbed one. Cathy: Why did you grab the fat-free one?? Irving: I didn't look. It just said "ice cream". Cathy: I count on you to be oblivious and grab REGULAR ice cream...NOT to be oblivious and grab FAT-FREE ice cream!! Don't you always buy fat-free? Cathy: Exactly! The only time I get to eat regular ice cream is when you buy it because you're not paying attention! If you don't pay attention to how you're not paying attention, you bring home the healthy alternative and ruin everything!! Irving: Women should come with warning labels. Cathy: For what? You wouldn't read those, either!

“Women, Can’t live with them.”
No, there is no more to the quote.

Why are they married, again? :P

How else would we learn humility? :) Or that “us” is more important than “me”? Or that long-term future is (at least) as important as the moment?
These are all qualities of a completed human being, and without committing yourself to another person for keeps – and meaning it – we would never learn them.

Irving is a poster child for why men need warning labels also. I guess the vacation is over anyway.
Very well said, SCAATY_423.

Dunno - I’m not married, but managed to pick up a diet soda by mistake… fortunately, I caught it be fore I opened it, so the store allowed an exchange.

Fat free ice cream? I’d rather enjoy my treats.

Oh, certainly. Religious consecration, personal dedication to a larger group or cause, anything that involves you in some way with something outside your own skin – they all require those personal qualities, and thereby help to build them. Being married, though, is what you might call the high-intensity, total-immersion approach. :)
Not that personal self-development is the only reason to get married (or otherwise commit to an unreserved, open-ended personal relationship) – it’s only the greatest benefit from something you’d get into for other, more immediate reasons: physical attraction, shared interests, compatible values, a desire to build a life together.

stephfoster: I’d choose sugar-free ice cream over fat-free myself…a little matter of diabetes, and it’s easier to find something that tastes like the Real Thing. :)

If this is how real woman act towards their husbands, then real woman are lame. I have not nor will I ever act this way towards my husband, it’s disrespectful.
lin4869 over 13 years ago
No, newworldmozart, women I know don’t act that way. It’s just for the comics.
