    “Women, Can’t live with them.”

No, there is no more to the quote.

How else would we learn humility? :) Or that “us” is more important than “me”? Or that long-term future is (at least) as important as the moment?

These are all qualities of a completed human being, and without committing yourself to another person for keeps – and meaning it – we would never learn them.

Irving is a poster child for why men need warning labels also. I guess the vacation is over anyway.

    Very well said, SCAATY_423.

Dunno - I’m not married, but managed to pick up a diet soda by mistake… fortunately, I caught it be fore I opened it, so the store allowed an exchange.

Fat free ice cream? I’d rather enjoy my treats.

Oh, certainly. Religious consecration, personal dedication to a larger group or cause, anything that involves you in some way with something outside your own skin – they all require those personal qualities, and thereby help to build them. Being married, though, is what you might call the high-intensity, total-immersion approach. :)

Not that personal self-development is the only reason to get married (or otherwise commit to an unreserved, open-ended personal relationship) – it’s only the greatest benefit from something you’d get into for other, more immediate reasons: physical attraction, shared interests, compatible values, a desire to build a life together.

stephfoster: I’d choose sugar-free ice cream over fat-free myself…a little matter of diabetes, and it’s easier to find something that tastes like the Real Thing. :)

No, newworldmozart, women I know don’t act that way. It’s just for the comics.
