see that’s why technicians make the big bucks.it’s not the work and sweat tweaking knobs and turning levers.it’s knowing which knobs and levers!

The wall unit only uses the batteries if it is miswired or the thermostat wire was not upgraded when they switched from a mechanical to a digital unit. It normally runs off of the 24v from the furnace transformer. The correct fix is to run a new thermostat cable with extra wires. The wire costs less than $20.

I did the same thing with the rolling shutter in my parents’ house. Saved them a bundle, the repairman was all for changing the system.
