That’s a good one – using a garbage truck for a resale shop. Must be some marvelous stuff available in that store.

There’s something sort of like that here…

Not a truck so blatantly labeled…

But two nearby landfills have thrift shops, and some of the merchandise comes in on the recycle trucks.

Actually, where I live the garbage and recycling are picked up by the same truck… they SAY it goes into totally separate compartments… uh huh.

Our landfill is the main county one… out near the coast over 25 miles from me, so I seldom go out there.

When you take stuff there you’re supposed to drop things off in designated areas … recyclable paper, metal, and glass.

Furniture, large appliances(which you pay a fee to drop off), clothing, paint, “toxics”… which includes things like glue, batteries and nail polish.

I can’t remember all the categories but some you can’t just dump in the landfill or you get fined.

They also sort what comes in on the truck.

There’s a big shop there, that sells everything they consider salvageable from those areas,

along with donated items brought there for the purpose.

They sell the clothing by the pound.

Besides that, the small town north of me has its own landfill…

They used to run a thrift shop here, cos we have more people… they even called it “Garbage Reincarnation”.

They refurbished things like bicycles and lawn furniture… and even got a lot of donations of unsold merchandise from merchants.

It was actually clean and full of bargains, while it lasted.

Actually, they’re afraid to handle it. If disturbed, the farts trapped in the couch would be like power failure time for Ghostbusters.

Our charity resale shops are closing. The Animal Shelter store closed about 20 years ago. The Hospice store closed about 2 years ago. All that’s left is Goodwill (which I doubt will close unless they pull out of this town) and St. Vincent’s.
