I think the phrase “We might be interested” is a kind of all-purpose alert.
Especially from the Pennys… but really…. who says that in any way you really want to hear?
People you didn’t invite anyway.
People who won’t commit to a reply to an invitation (often cos they’re waiting for a better offer.)
People who are trying to weasel out of something… an invitation, your grandkid’s piano recital, your art gallery exhibition…
any time they mean “OMG NO!” but don’t want to say so.
IE, nobody you like.
Spirits are the driving force in that story. Rather maudlin, as well. Don’t even ask about the brandy and cigar room.
They’d go to “Grease” ‘cuz they think it’s about food.
