I guess, once I stopped believing in Santa, I must have been either an unimaginative kid or a goody two-shoes. I never scoured the house looking for a stash of presents. It never occurred to me to do so. Never raided the liquor cabinet either.

Finding an unwrapped present for the first time brought down the reality that there was no Santa Claus. To this day I still remember the gift,,,,it was a brown belt that you made by interlocking the leather pieces together.

I have a Christmas present in my bedroom from all of the staff at my Work Placement. I haven’t been tempted to open it even once.I’ve always had excellent willpower.xxx

That’s what my folks did. As an added bonus, the neighbor was a retired auto mechanic who loved helping my dad with those things that came “some assembly required.”

My mom always just told us, “I’m hiding all the Christmas presents in (whichever spot). If you don’t want to ruin the surprise, better stay out.” I don’t think any of us ever peeked.
