    Actually, the sound of one hand clapping is CLA-; the other hand makes the -AP sound.

    I often clap with one hand, especially when my other hand is holding a cup/glass of liquid. The result is far from silent, as the free hand claps against something other than a hand… usually a leg.

    You can clap one hand against itself – just open and close your hand fast so your fingers clap against the base of your thumb. It doesn’t make much sound, though.
