One of the reenactors got to the event late and was carrying a real loaded 45 (apparently) in error. Due to the time constraints the organizers flaunted one of their safety rules and did not check the gun. I don’t see the NRA anywhere in the picture.
Those who do not like the United States, perhaps have found allies, not in the rank and file members, but the administration of the NRA and are using them to create a divide among the American people. We all care about or friends and family and do not want to worry about their safety. It would seem that with a little effort there could be a sensible compromise that would maintain the right to bear arms and protect our loved ones from being harmed by those who should not have that privilege automatically. This would be accomplished by finding and eliminating the root cause of the violence and eliminating it, not by adding more ineffective laws, but by removing them and electing people who are capable of actually solving the problem rather than blaming the other side time and time again while the enemies of our county have a good laugh at our inability to behave like a unified nation.
The NRA membership represents well under 5% of firearms owners in the U.S.. The toon illustrates the problem 95% of responsible gun owners have with the NRA (No Rational Alternatives).
Someone did not follow safety protocols, and managed to shoot himself— not fatal, unless dying of embarrassment might qualify.
What I see in the comments have no real relationship to the actual event. Instead, it sounds like a Taliban meeting: You do not agree with us, you must be punished.

Are the gun laws really liberal, or are they just lax?

Looked up the incident report on the shooting.

Amen, braindead08. Seriously, sign me, a Montana gun owner, 180 degrees from the NRA positions.
