Probably a contraction of ski and hitching. Grabbing the bumper of a passing car and let it pull you along on the snow, maybe???
Skitching is hanging on to a bumper while you crouch down behind and flat foot ski. I knew I was an old soul because as a child I thought kids were crazy to do it. Very dangerous as they generally didn’t know the driver.
