The fact that the consummate soldiers find it necessary to vent, however unprofessional that may be, is indicative of the disarray of the 0bama’s administration of the war effort(s), the most egregious element of which are the finite deadlines for withdrawals.

War is no luxury, and unless it is fought to win, we shall not be involved in such.

Oh, please. Morin might be exaggerating, but you guys are getting predictable.

Peter, this “consummate soldier” just so happened to have his issues with everyone mentioned with a RS interviewer nearby. The man is one of the most important figures in the US military, it’s not like he can’t get a personal meeting with Obama if he wants one. He got it via an article in the Rolling Stone where he talks s..t about the people he’s working with. Well, THAT will help matters, certainly. As for the “disarray”, McChrystal is one of the most influential parties there. With all due respects to HQ, he got most of what he wanted from Obama, so he has to work with what he has at hand. If that’s not enough, it’s not RS he should be talking to.

And it’s not exactly the strategy he has an issue with, is he? It’s the remarks about everyone else on the team that got him in trouble. It might not be a big deal from lower-ranking officer, but a general in a position such as that is supposed to be responsible for what he’s talking about. Tell me one line of work where this gets you somewhere other than “in deep s..t”.

It was the rogue President that abandoned the anti-al-Qaida war in Afghanistan to start one against some idiot in Iraq. “Of course Saddam has WMDs, we still have the receipts.”

Commanding generals who dissented during Bush’s term were fired. “You need how many troops to invade Iraq? You’re fired.”

“Soldiers not only defend our constitutional rights but enjoy the protections.”

They also defend constitutional rights and protections some of them don’t even have.

You righties are working awfully hard to claim McChrystal is the injured party here. Facts: (1) He was drunk and shooting off his mouth to a hostile reporter. I mean, Rolling Stone? (2) He reports to the President, not the other way around. And there are very good Constitutional reasons why that should be so. (3) If anyone during the Bush administration had even criticized the direction of the war, you’d have been all over their @sses – as indeed you were, and the bloviators were calling war critics “Traitors.” Well, the General is a traitor by definition, and in violation of the Military Code of Conduct. He should count himself lucky if he doesn’t get shot.

Read the article closely and it isn’t the general being quoted. It is staff around him, but probably bs-ing about what the over all mood in headquarters really is. They were probably drunk, shooting the breeze with congenial reporter, and didn’t realized he was taking notes. Gen McC should be reprimanding THEM. Of course, it does point out that Gen McC is not happy with higher command.

please give evidence the General was “drunk”… and My3sons is correct, the offensive words were not quoted by Rolling Stone’s trouble-maker, the words of the General’s aides were quoted.

    Make the aides apologize.

(does King Obama take the blame when his thugs are quoted speaking in offensive ways?)

“You righties are working awfully hard to claim McChrystal is the injured party here.”

    And mythology continues …

0bama had very little choice but to fire him …

In so far as I am concerned though, any general that voted for 0bama has shown a proclivity towards bad judgment(s).

Obama’s King? Does that mean Bush was a Pharoah? After all, Bush claimed he was appointed by God.

“Unity and coming together to defeat Al Qaida in Afghanistan? How many on the left will agree with that statement?”

I do. But then I’m also pro-troops… including our gay troops.

The general knows the UCMJ, and making his comments to the press was idiotic, and he knew it.

We should remember another “NON- **ss kisser” called things EXACTLY RIGHT, and BUSH FIRED HIM. The name was Shinseki and he showed absolutely no disrespect, he just did his job. Now that same ex-general is working very hard to do a better job for veterans, and it isn’t easy. Part of the problem is still dealing with the “old hats” and brain-dead, still in the military branches intent on shafting the troops, so they have more money for their “toys” from contractors.

^ You need HOW many troops to succeed in Iraq?! You’re fired!

Number of troops that ended up in Iraq before “success:” roughly the amount Shinseki requested.

General George S Patton - Censured in World War II General Douglas MacArthur - Fired by Harry S Truman General Stanley McChrystal - Forced to Resign . I’d say that puts him in quite excellent company.

I said “aides” and “probably drunk”. Story as I heard it was they were stranded in Europe because of ash from Iceland with a lot of time to kill. This is too late to bother posting, but had wanted to emphasize the statements were not the general’s. Admit my source about drinking was early morning radio pundit probably trying to be amusing.
