I’ve got a crazy idea about a cartoonist who works in a buttoned-up double-breasted suit jacket, a tie, and while smoking a pipe.
I always assumed Kliban worked in his underwear but then I read that he didn’t like underwear…
And now on to Walmart.
Most all cartoonist like Kliban found that life presented the best sources.James Thurber worked the same way.
I love the kid. That’s me at age 4.
Makes me wonder what Kliban really looked like. I tend to doubt he was quite so clean-cut as portrayed here.
He looked more like a 1970s youth, according to his picture
Brings to mind, “The Button Down Mind of Bob Newhart,” the comedic CPA.
Kliban reminded me of “Preacher” on the sitcom Taxi.
Not exactly well-kempt.
