I think kids now are slammed with homework. In ancient times at my school . I usually could complete it in study hall. School was school and home was home. (Present situation excepted.)
I used to take the syllabus for each class and finish the years work over the first week. I would read other books and do other things the rest of the year. I skipped four grades and graduated very early. Yes, I am that freak.
I remember the first time I got a used book in school; I was in third grade, I think. Inside the cover, on the blank page, someone had written: In case of fire, throw this in. I still chuckle about it.
I was like Teena. I liked learning new things. I remember the good teachers and forgot the bad ones right away. It’s true what posters said about old textbooks, but that spurred me to seek new knowledge in the library or latest publications, especially about science.
New knowledge about history and geography go hand in hand with daily news, and in our house we got daily papers (in those days), so any political article about the world or our own, caused us to find out the story behind it with our parents always telling us to get to it…
