Never understood the concept of not spending Father’s Day (or Mother’s Day) with one’s family. I’ve got 4 kids and I’d very much enjoy the first two things Teena listed. I’d tolerate the rest for the sake of family time.
Today happens to be my Dad’s birthday. We can’t do much- 3 days ago we ordered pizza for my mother’s birthday, and we all agreed that we’ve had enough cake. Last night I stayed home with Mom, who is wheelchair bound and has a form of dementia where she knows who Dad and I are, our relationships, that we take care of her, and what she currently needs. He got to go out to an astronomical club, on a clear night, with a busload of high school kids who were there willingly, a year after cataract surgery eliminated a several year ban on driving at night. He’s basically been home, pursuing hobbies and interests in between caring for Mom and assisting me (mild disabilities). So down to trying to do a few extra minor tasks for him…
