The best candidate never to become president. But then someone observed that the chances of a socialist Jew becoming POTUS are nil until you note that Americans celebrate the birthday of another socialist Jew every December 25th.

The Prime Minsiter of Greece from 2012 to January 2015 was Antonis Samaras, from the conservative New Democracy Party. Alexis Tsipras from the socialist Syriza party became Prime Minsiter in January. So Ramirez is wrong if he’s suggesting that the problems in Greece were created by socialists.

Couldn’t do much worse than GWB/Cheney and Neo-cons. Now in 14th year of war to grab Iraq’s oil of 2 week war that would pay for itself. By the way, the billion’s it’s costing is “Off Budget” as no other way of cutting Social Security, etc. and “balancing” the budget.

The military expenditures have often supported death on a massive scale, in an offensive, not defensive role. If we can’t even fund a superconducting supercollider for example, or other, basic non-military scientific research, we have no business with a truculent, nasty hegemonic military. Then…there are sewers, roads, bridges, water systems, electrical grids, and scads of other, more useful investments other than the military. Finally, John, when will the Ayn Rand lovers out there realize we are a social species, and not fully human without other humans? It’s not really complicated, except when willful blindness and self-referential ego get in the way of appreciating the realities of our interdependence.

Greece is Bernie Sanders dream job.Obama is getting us halfway there with the lowest Workforce Participation rate in 35 years under Jimbo Carter.Bernie would make everyone unemployed and government dependent and thus would bankrupt the country.Good toon, once again Ramirez!

Actually it was good old Goldman Sachs, free enterprise and vulture capitalism that brought down Greece…

Greece’s problem was more wealth disparity and the wealthy dodging taxes, instead of paying them. That doesn’t remind you of anyone?

And, I find it interesting that people like Ramirez so conveniently ignore the most socialist countries in the world: Sweden, Norway and Denmark, all of whom are doing better than the US.

I noticed the comment of the conservative government of Greece. The socialist are right wing the left wing is completely nuts. Just look at how they run the government. Also remember the US and Goldman made the Greeks lie about the debt and forced them to allow lax tax collect and forced them to come up with pensions with short employment. Yeah Yeah it was George and Goodman Yeah

The U.S., and especially our veterans, will be paying for "W"’s errors for at least four more decades, and more trillions of dollars. The “he’s been gone” theory is in no way correct.

The big parts of the problem that happen to bring Greece to where it is now is because of avoidance of paying taxes by many Greeks/government lack of enforcement, and government corruption. Not so much a problem of socialism or lazy Greeks."Tax evasion and corruption is a problem in Greece.12 Tax evasion has been described by Greek politicians as “a national sport”—with up to €30 billion per year going uncollected.3Political corruption is acknowledged as a significant problem by many observers, but some believe its size has been overstated by international media. According to Transparency International Greece’s National Integrity Assessment 2012, the problem of corruption in Greece is the confluence of many factors, including a weak enforcement of the law, a lack of audits, the absence of codes of conduct, the non-transparency of government activities, an inefficient bureaucracy, government impunity and broad discretionary powers and a lack of public awareness.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tax_evasion_and_corruption_in_GreeceOf course here in the USA everyone willing pays their taxes, so no tax evasion. Money is free speech, so no government corruption.

There is no such thing as an Obamaphone; there is such thing as a Reaganphone. When people talk about free or subsidized cell phones started out as subsidized land lines in 1980’s, when they were just called telephones. It was a deal that was cut to deregulate the phone industry, less regulation in return for low cost phone service for poor people.

There is no such thing as “free medical care.” The doctors, nurses, ambulance drivers, lab techs and others all get paid for the work they. Question is how is it paid. By law, hospitals have to provide medical care, regardless of the ability to pay by patient. The taxpayer gets stuck with the bill. The U.S. has adopted a plan similar to Germany or Switzerland. Depending on the income, you may qualify for assistance from the government. It isn’t insane, and in the long run less costly than a system where the taxpayer ends up paying for people being rushed to the emergency room when they have no other choice.
