    Disbelief?

No, we all need to get used to it.

“need to get used to it” ?!!!? NEVER ! This is domestic terrorism quietly sanctioned by a certain political mindset that thinks it’s “unavoidable” and “unthinkable”. These kinds of terrorist acts come from a mindset propagated in national media and we need to make it socially unacceptable to be racist and hateful. We need to shun those radio and TV programs which systematically instill these hateful attitudes into our young people. At the very least, you could take down that flag. The very least.

We need to scream and yell that this kind of violence and terror is no longer acceptable or tolerated !!

@robert daigneault@mikema50And a whole lot more “knee-jerk” reactions. By now it is well known by most people that criminals are not affected by gun controls. As sad as I find the death of those people in that church, I also find sad how people like you do not stop to think at the consequences that your suggestions may bring; the literal “throw the baby with the dirty water” The murderer could have just as easily use a knife, what would you have suggest then? From now on all knives in the nation must be blunt and only chefs and housewives can use them. You really want to stop these terrible incidents from happening? Lobby your political leader for harsher penalties. Making criminals of the rest of the country is not a solution, if gun control laws are increased no one in their right mind will tell you if and/or how many guns they have. You just have to look at Canada, their gun control laws are so useless that the whole law had to be scraped. It was nothing more than money making scheme, awfully and poorly managed and made criminals of defenseless law abiding citizens.“more reasonable interpretation of the second amendment?” I am guessing you haven’t even read the second amendment. In your opinion a reasonable interpretation would be something that will benefit a tyranny. Go back to your history books and find out why Yamamoto insisted to the emperor and his generals not to invade the US. It should give you the answer you need.

As usual we won’t do anything that is reasonable. A compromise on gun laws would help. The media dwelling on this for weeks and months only encourages other nut jobs to try to make their mark. The tidal wave of violence in the media, entertainment, and gaming encourages it as a “solution”. The culture needs to change and we are the culture.

@canFunny, I’m pretty sure he would have had a whole lot more difficulty killing 9 people with a knife.

Canfunny: a point of fact; criinals who ignore gun laws ARE very often sent back to prison for felon in possession of a firearm, My local news had three such incidents in ONE night’s reporting, and that is in a relatively small community.

With millions of guns, and millions of cars (14 MILLION new ones sold in the U.S. last year) regulating what’s already out there, like idiots with cell phones trying to drive at the same time, does overwhelm the “Judicial” system to stop ALL infractions, BUT every time one is stopped from doing harm, it’s one less out there doing harm.

Those may be baby steps, but the gun lobby doesn’t even want the baby allowed to crawl from the crib.

“And Canada’s gun control laws are so useless that their murder rates are only about one tenth the American rates per capita. Pretty useless….”.Without restricting gun ownership to the Jews, Hitler would not have been able to murder 6 million of them in one of the biggest government programs ever!
