Question: What woman should they put on the new $10 bill? The ten-dollar bill has been changed to the seven-seventy dollar bill. The working woman is featured, and it is printed by the Unequal Pay of America.
Hmmmm…..WASHINGTON — President Obama on Tuesday will call attention to what he has said is an “embarrassment” in America: the fact that women make, on average, only 77 cents for every dollar that a man earns.
But critics of the administration are eager to turn the tables and note that Mr. Obama’s White House fares only slightly better. A study released in January showed that female White House staff members make on average 88 cents for every dollar a male staff member earns.http://www.nytimes.com/2014/04/08/us/politics/as-obama-spotlights-gender-gap-in-wages-his-own-payroll-draws-scrutiny.html?_r=0
Excuse me, but women make less on average than men because many women choose to stay out of the workplace, wisely or not, and therefore have less experience and seniority. Demagoguery doesn’t change this.
are you comparing them doing the same job, or different types of jobs? are men are working as skilled tradesman and women are working as clerks. If both are doing the same job (eg brick layer) are they getting the same rate? (based on skill level) then yes they should get the same rate and if not then its wrong. But don’t compare apples to oranges and say there is a problem
Statisticians can correct for the fact that many women take time off for families. And guess what: those women who don’t take off time for family still earn substantially less than men for doing the same work. The 0.88 ratio for the White House is another long-debunked argument that conservatives routinely parade out as though it’s true: If you control for seniority, women in the White House make exactly the same as men. It’s a tightly-controlled civil service payscale, so unlike in the private sector, men and women of the same experience get the same pay.
mrs1wing: and take Jackson off the 20, the guy who stole all my Cherokee ancestors lands among other sins, and leave Hamiliton alone he was the first Secretary of the Treasury.
This is going to have to be looked at more, I searched Women wage gap per occupation and there are plenty of studies. The Gender Wage Gap by Occupation by Ariane Hegewisch, Claudia Williams, Vanessa Harbin (April 2012) http://www.iwpr.org/publications/pubs/the-gender-wage-gap-by-occupation-1/at_download/file “Women’s median earnings are lower than men’s in nearly all occupations, whether they work in occupations predominantly done by women, occupations predominantly done by men, or occupations with a more even mix of men and women.”“Here are the only 9 jobs in America where women out-earn men”http://www.businessinsider.com/gender-wage-gap-per-profession-2015-3?op=1“Now, new data released by the US Census Bureau reveals the scope of that gap within occupations. It compares men and women’s full-time wages in 342 professions. ”As Catherine Rampell reports at the Washington Post, women earn more than men in only nine of them. "“Separate and Unequal: Occupation-Establishment Sex Segregation and the Gender Wage Gap”http://www.jstor.org/stable/2782431Clearly someone is wrong.
Well, here’s the reason the cons insist it has to be a woman President (no, not because they want Hillary on the $10!):“A woman has to work twice as hard to be thought half as good as a man; fortunately, this is not hard.”In any case, the $10 is up for a refresh, so it won’t cost anything to change. That’s why not the $20.

Maybe there are other sociological reasons women make less? Look it up Tommy.

Any excuse to exploit workers will do for far too many employers. It must be noted that being female is one of the worst excuses.

^Hmmm. Alexander Hamilton, never president. Benjamin Franklin, never president. Great men, but not presidents.

$7.70 is a valid issue. The question asked was “What woman should they put on the new $10 bill?” Seriously, folks, are there any good answers?
