We had a cat that actually ate the sofa, ripped both arms to shreds, Got a new sofa and she never went near it,Bought the old one at a Department store’s outlet center, now I wonder where it came from.

Oh NO !!! That is not how the mind of a dog or a cat works. Old shoes to chew as a puppy equals a lifelong desire for shoe chewing that does not care about words like NEW or OLD … stop this NOW before your “new couch” becomes your new “old couch”.
