Garfield was amusing 20 years ago. So was the British government. Now both are just sad, washed-out, repetitious, tiring bores… (And one could say the same thing about us here at home.)
I must defend Garfield. While the characters of that lazy, gluttonous cat and the well-meaning but inept owner do invite repitition, I am constantly amazed by the strip’s ability to come up with new and FUNNY material.
I wonder if there isn’t some jealousy on Pab’s part here. After all, next to my desk is a bookcase of comics memorabilia that includes Garfield-labeled cat food, spaghetti and meatballs, a disposable camera, and children’s wart remover. Only Peanuts is more merchandised according to my non-scientific sample (which success I don’t think they deserve any longer after the family’s decision not to allow the strip to continue). But Pab’s zing sounds like sour grapes to me.
Nonetheless, I do wish Pab the best of luck and hope that someday he too can rake in the millions.

Low grade predictable one-shot funny, that take years to be funny again. No-good for everyone.

I think we should have had Jimmy Carter in to help monitor the elections.

I filed my first “Fuzzy Bunny Time” substitute for Saturday’s strip. Let’s see which one runs.
