Actually, the song is much, much older than that. It was originally an English ballad about a Yorkshire town called Scarborough, and was thought to date back as far as 1670 or so. There was a verse for a man, followed by an answering verse for a woman, in which each posed impossible tasks for the other in order to prove that they were true lovers.-The earliest commercial recordings of it may have been by some Americans in France in the 1950s, but Paul Simon learned it from Martin Carthy in London in 1960s.-He then set it in ‘counterpoint’ with a song he wrote called ‘Canticle’, based on anti war lyrics he had written, and Art Garfunkel had created the melody for.-Art Garfunkel is still around, has done some acting and had some health problems. He tried touring a music act (first with Paul Simon, then alone), but has had vocal cord problems due to years of smoking. But he’s still out there, somewhere…

I’d love to know what was in the watering can that Horace used, to make the signs grow…

This is a day for strange gardens. Buni had an odd result when he planted some seeds, too…

I’ve got all but the parsley so far in my garden just outside this window. Unfortunately, there are some rather large weeds there, too. Too rainy to get out and take care of them.

The signs grew instead of the plants.
