I had a company go bankrupt on me, fortunately my pay was direct deposit and actually showed up in the bank a few days after the company went under. Only thing I lost (I thought) was a few hundred that was supposed to go to a 401(k) plan. The 401(k) was with a reputable company, so that didn’t get taken. I filled out some paperwork I was sent by a bankruptcy court and figured that would be the end of it.
7 years later, I got a check for the money, minus taxes. Got the full amount, too. Took me a while to figure out what it was for..

Payroll, not an issue. Payroll taxes owed the IRS, they’ll hunt you down.
