Somehow it’s reminding me of Don Henley’s (Eagles) “Heart of the Matter” song.

Quino (creator of Mafalda) must have read this. He drew a strip about 2 decades later of a conversation between Susanita and Felipe that’s almost exactly the same.

For a kid to buy 4 comics today it would cost a small fortune.Back when this strip new a comic was only 10 or 12 cents. Now, upwards of $3.00.

These days apparently the way to a girl’s heart is to collect the “Fifty Shades” collection……..

Ten cents in 1950. I believe by that time it was 48 pages all in color for a dime. Of course by then super-heroes were being phased out and replaced by funny animals, romance, westerns, crime and horror with a little science fiction tossed in for good measure. Crime and horror comics would lead to Wertham’s “Seduction of the Innocent” (one of the worst examples of fudging and making up data ever until the “vaccines cause autism” research was published) and the Comics Code Authority “self-regulation.” Far from thinking tha told comics would be valuable some day, adults at least were thinking that they should all be burned lest all of the children turn into murderous juvenile delinquents.
