Thankfully we have opened up US oil fields. If we expanded it and built the XL pipeline, we’d be completely independent and say screw you Russia, Iran and all the other dirty players.Oh and be paying $1.50 a gallon

You are absolutely correct. It’s the Saudi’s that still control global oil prices by playing with their spigot. The worlds largest oil reserves by a couple orders of magnitude is still under the middle east.

The XL does nothing for US energy independence. It simply ships shale oil to the gulf where energy companies can either ship crude or refine it and sell it on the international market. It creates few long term jobs and places a key aquifer at risk. Not to mention the land that will be lost to eminent domain. Canada would love it because it gives them better access to the market. That said, we still have to convert to cleaner energy sources if we don’t want to cook the planet.

Would you not describe your last post as arrogant? I really don’t appreciate the being labeled a commie because I don’t agree with your stance.

“s49nav said, about 2 hours ago@dtroutmaBut it’s OK to saddle your grandkids with trillions in unpayable debt so you can finance the lifestyles of those who believe they have the right to live on the shoulders of their neighbors. Got it.”Hey, a great description of the GOP in government.Your learning.

“Yes. Pay attention, fracking is happening all around you, and it’s why you’re no longer paying full Obama “stupid tax” prices at the pump.”Fracking is used in the extraction of natural gas, not crude oil. It has no effect on oil or gasoline prices.

sorry jase99 natural gas prices DO affect gasoline prices // liquid oil is used to make many things // if heating oil demand drops due to increase use of natural gas it can be converted into gasoline // simple econ supply goes up price comes down

Why do you label SizeofaPea as far left; just because he disagrees with you? I get tired of hearing progressives labeled as socialists or communists, which they are not- even if you insist they are, Just more stirred up red scare. And not only do you label them communists, but "stinking communist. Even if they were, we live in a free country that allows people to be communists. Are you a fascist?

I’m pretty far left, but I’m not a communist, and in fact I am quite critical of communism. I certainly don’t think the government should regulate every aspect of life. I think that social problems require social solutions, but there are lots of problems which are individual problems, and those should be dealt with by individuals.

Simple fact: petroleum IS finite, human population growth and consumption is not. Even carrion beetles feeding in the museum will die after they’ve consumed all the flesh on a skeleton, no matter how long they last on that decomposing corpse that is their “planet”.

anweir: know quite a few Marines (they never regard themselves as “ex” marines. The bainwashing and reconstruction in basic, is reenforced and made permanent, which may be noble, but dangerous.

A guy in Arkansas ran up when he saw my Cav pin and crew wings. He was a Marine in ’Nam TWICE left by marine pilots who said it was too hot to get them out, and Cav crews flew in to lift them out. On one of those incidents, I recognized the place, and time, and that I was crewing the bird ahead of the one haulling him out. He loved the Cav pilots and crews, he was not so impressed with the Marines “never leave a man behind” theory in practice.

I saw other incidents where Marine commanders did regard their men as numbers, called Marines, so they didn’t have to regard them as actual people.

WE don’t need to call on yet more Marines, or others, die in the perpetual parades to war, and profits for oil companies, that’s the real price at the pumps.
