Electric cars have a ways to go. First, charging stations are few and far between. Second, you have to plug them in overnight. Finally they can only go about 100 miles on a charge. I won’t mention how long the battery lasts, what the replacement cost is and how much you have to pay to get rid of it since it is toxic waste.

Given these limitations, assuming you can find suitable charging stations along the way, an otherwise 8 hour drive from North Carolina to New Jersey should only take about a week: about the progress of an ox-drawn covered wagon.

Now if you want to spend a lot of money on a car that is only useful fro driving around town, it’s an excellent idea.

Having said all this, I think they are an excellent idea and I hope research continues in this area. The technology needs to catch up with the practicality.

I’ll consider Electric Cars viable when they are able to provide 300 to 400 Miles per Charge and a charge time of 30 minutes to one hour to at least 150 miles plus capability.

I want a car that is “self” powered; where you can just “plug in” and go!.Of course, the folks who make “Beano” or “Gas-X” will have to do something else…
