Problem is, over my lifetime (50+ years) the government has ALWAYS thought it was a good time to borrow money regardless of interest rates. Spend & borrow is the status quo rather than a rational decision based on whether it makes sense.
One thing that would help reduce the debt is to raise taxes on the 1 pct. Bill Gates has given away billions & yet he remains the worlds richest man. These so called tax cuts for the rich has never been reinvested to create new jobs. Instead they’re sent overseas leaving Americans with minimum wage jobs. Stop the offshoring of well paid American jobs & close tax loopholes for the wealthy.
Elect Republicans! They’ll eliminate government debt, just like the last time they were in power. -You do remember, right?-Secret earmarks are good for you.
That flow in the ’toon is just the INTEREST being paid on the debt to mostly U.S. corporations and “banking” institutions. The vast majority of that debt was run up by Republican administrations and Congresses, or continuing to pay for their wars, “tax breaks”, contracting (think Halliburton and Lockheed), or “Homeland Security”.
A reminder again: the VAST MAJORITY of that debt is owed to U.S. interests!! That bears repeating.

Cube Farmer has made some nasty comments. But frankly, there’s lefties who are as bad. As for dennis112…looking at his comments above, not seeing anything that is more than the usual back and forth. Since I didn’t see your removed comment, I can’t compare it to his. If it was in the same vein, I would say it should not have been removed. Perhaps there was something else there.
Hopefully we’ll all be in better spirits in a couple of weeks when the stress of midterms has subsided..Honestly I’ve been quite the jerk myself several times, so blanket apologies.
OHH ok, that explains it!! Wow, so ummm we’re exactly did he hide it?? Since you seem to have all the insider information! And that kind of contradicts all of the liberal rants of how Bush’s wars increased our debt so much. Who said that raising the national debt by over $4 trillion in eight years is ‘unpatriotic’??
Hey, kid — if the “reformers” keep their hands off your school, maybe you’ll get to learn the difference between “deficit” and “debt” and about GDPs, and then it won’t seem as scary to you.

St. Ronnie and The Shrub(s) had Democrats in both houses as did Obama in his first 2 years, and for his other 4 he only lost the senate.
