Well, if the new pot legalization passes, we can start taxing it. It’s one our top cash-crops (if not THE top), and that whole underground economy can now be tapped. That’ll help…
I think the Feds would still have to ACKNOWLEDGE pot sales somehow before they could get a slice of the pie, no? Yeah, I know that the IRS insists that you declare “illegal” income for tax purposes, so they’d be getting their cut that way, but can the FDA oversee/regulate potency and so on as long as they still consider it a Schedule I narcotic?
Also, it would cut down on law enforcement and prison expenses if we stopped chasing and locking up potheads…
Do the Governator and the Legislature of California really think that the people that have been growing and selling tax-free pot for years will start happily paying taxes in it now?
How has that worked out for the Whiskey tax? I’ve heard rumors of people making and selling whiskey without paying the tax!!

Good think the state spent millions of dollars to organize a special election to throw the democrat out of office so Schwarzenegger could fix the economy.

If/when it’s legalized, I’d expect to see the retail price DROP, even with the tax added, because the overhead per unit will be lower.
(Actually, I won’t see it personally, because I don’t use the stuff. My support of legalization is untainted by self-interest.)
