Boots on the ground: yes. US boots on the ground: no. The people with the most to lose have the most reason to invest. This means Syria, Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, mostly, but other middle eastern countries need to pay close attention.
The US can best serve the purpose by helping those countries achieve those goals themselves, by providing tactical, intelligence, and other support. But not by going to the front lines and dying for kings, princes, and emirs who view OUR troops as THEIR pawns.
Maybe the President is also listening to the many American citizens who do NOT want our men & women sent to the mid-east, to fight for thankless royal thrones again!.Thanks, I play one on TV; most poignant!
When JFK was being pressured to send more troops to Viet Nam, he sent his brother Robert to ask the opinion of retired general Douglas MacArthur, who, at that time, was considered by all to be the leading authority on Asia. The “fading” general replied “Anyone contemplating sending American troops to the Asian mainland ought to have his head examined!”.I would put forth Same for the mid-east!
Things may have changed in the Obama administration, but you would be wrong regarding Mr. Bush’s armed forces.
A volunteer force requires that people believe that the cause is worth volunteering for. It was pretty obvious pretty quickly that the wars started in Iraq and Afghanistan were not worth volunteering for; this is why enlistees were not allowed to leave the service, even after their obligations were over (“stop-loss” was the official designation). Despite this, we needed more bodies to take the place of those who died, were wounded in combat, or were too mentally incapable to return for a 5th, 6th, 7th tour of duty.
As a result, the DOD changed requirements. One could volunteer up to the age of 42 (!). Also high school dropouts were allowed, and some criminal records were winked at to keep the numbers up.
Once again, it’s not wise to paint all liberals (or any other group) with one brush; you will always be proved wrong when you use over-broad generalizations.
Just a note on those boots: anyone consider the Kurds plus Turks going in, with the decades of Turkey killing Kurds to prevent them from getting an autonomous region, like in Iraq for themselves?
Obama was wrong to remove our troops from Iraq and the proof is the ISIS takeover and the lack of resistance except for the Kurds in the north. Today ISIS is poised to take Baghdad. They seized oilfields. They massacred Muslims and Christians and minorities wherever they went. They looted and stole and destroyed churches and Christians lost every property they owned, if they escaped alive.-USA “Boots on the Ground” could have prevented all this evil success for the puppets of Satan.

There is the stupid party (GOP) who aims at not losing elections and the evil party (Democrats) who plays to win at any price. Once a while they go together to do stupid evil things (which is called bipartisanship).
We can’t afford it. We’ve blown $6 Trillion so far in the Sandbox….and 7000 dead Americans… and hundreds of thousands of innocents. We can buy the oil at market prices and still come out ahead.

I think that is the military solution to the sequester.

Sequester… What a joke. They cut what, maybe one tenth of one percent from the budget? Whoopee.

Give us a reason for existing, we have the numbers to put the boots on the ground and leave quickly.

That would be bootless, just like last time.
What’s that definition of insanity again?

Since Obama is a lame duck president maybe he should be wearing a mallard hat with the wings covering his ears instead of his wife’s boots.

How many military commanders, in Viet Nam, Afghanistan, or Iraq, did NOT say to give them more troops?
FishDog93 over 9 years ago
Yea national defense is a waste of money. Keeping the country safe is definitely not one of the main jobs of the federal government.
The federal government should just confiscate all then money is can through taxes and redistribute it.
