In the theater, that’s called “cheating out”; actors on stage rarely face each other squarely, they both are turned slightly towards the audience. It’s the same reason, in TV sitcoms, that a family of four at a rectangular dinner table will sit with Mom and Dad each at one of the short sides, and Junior and Sis both on the same long side…
