back to the knuckle cracker, with the ruler, I now have the largest knuckles in the world.

I remember on the first day of first grade, the mother of one of my best friends on the block, Walter, drove the two of us to school (there was no school bus). I was happy and excited to be starting school! Walter’s mother had to drag him out of the car, screaming. I wondered why Walter couldn’t be brave like me.I really liked starting first grade. That feeling didn’t last long!

On the first day of a summer introductory session to four-year kindergarten, I accompanied my youngest granddaughter and her mom to the school, where the children were lined up in rows to go in. One mom held her daughter in her arms till she had to hand the child over to the teacher. Then the mom went around wailing, “They took her AWAY from me!!” Sheesh.

Some days your just not feeling it…

The first day of kindergarten I hid under the teacher’s desk all day long. When I taught kindergarten many years later I discovered that was a perfectly normal reaction. I also discovered that most of the criers on the first day were boys.

I never went to kindergarten. You had to be born before September to be accepted, so I just skipped ahead to first grade.

What happens on the cul de sac, stays on the cul de sac!
