Jon, have you ever heard of scratching posts?Even an old log will do! About a yard tall nailedto a board for support and some old carpet onthe board. You won’t see your cat for hours!
When my cat started clawing my couch i put a couple of scratching post next to it & she only used them when i was looking. If i wasn’t looking she would use the couch. When i bought a new couch i made sure it was made from a material she hated & goodbye clawing the couch. Now she claws my mattress. Oh Brother.

Had 4 indoor cats over the span of 30 years. All were de-clawed. No furniture, drapes or rugs were ever distroyed by claws.
