We had a neighbor who thought it was funny when he could hit a neighbor’s sidewalk or driveway with his snowblower. He didn’t lock his car, parked on the street. His neighbors used a snowblower to fill it with snow.
I think the grandparents should foot the dollar for the kids. They did earn it, and the work should be rewarded. Miss Avis should be somehow advised that the grandparents had to supplement the cheap old woman. Most single older women would have added a bonus just to see the kids smile, and because they were so happy to get some help.
Miss Avis is punished enough because she has to live with her miserable self every day. The kids learned a life lesson for one dollar. They will never do any work for Avis again.
