Imagine what I thought once when I saw “Cooking Secrets of the CIA” in the television listings, but it turned out to be the Culinary Institute of America.
I first heard the word pronounced “cull-inary” when I was in college working at a local radio station more years ago than I care to remember. I asked the PD why they mispronounced the word (local ad); he said it was because the proper pronunciation (cue-linary) sounded too highbrow. Oh, so you lower the language to meet the supposed expectations of the listening audience, eh? No wonder we have such a problem with words meaning what they’re supposed to mean. After all, if you can get away with mangling the pronunciation, the meaning isn’t far behind. Just think of the word discrimination.

If she’s watching TV, wouldn’t she have heard it rather than seen it?

Night-Gaunt49When I was in seminary, I noticed there were quite a few pregnant wives. I don’t know about the fruitful, they had the multiply part.
