The world will do what they did when KAL 007 was shot down. Accuse and ignore. The personal belongings of the victims are already harvested, I’d be surprised if identity theft isn’t taking place as passports and cell phones are examined. The injury of death is combined with the theft of the bodies and belongings of those slain. I wonder how many bank accounts and such have already been hacked.A separatist tweeted right after the plane was destroyed that this would happen to any Ukrainian aircraft violating their airspace. A phone call was intercepted where a separatist and a Russian talk about the event and state it was a civilian aircraft. Putin blames Kiev for ending the ceasefire that ONLY Kiev was observing while the separatists continued to attack. Apparently, if Kiev had just been willing to allow it’s aircraft to be shot at and soldiers to be slain, this would not have happened.Europe needs oil for next winter. All evidence showing the missile was launched by separatists and/or Russians is a simple inconvenience. I’m certain Western Europe wishes this Malaysian aircraft had followed the other into a blameless obscurity. The murderer’s are known. And there’s nothing anyone but the US is willing to do. Even Amsterdam has been silent.“Never again” is a hollow cliché, and the humans who are most able to respond to these matters, are hollow and shallow.Respectfully,C.

Putin is losing. Obama played this as well as it could be played (if you want to see how McCain or Romney likely would have done, see: Bush, reaction to Putin’s invasion of Georgia). Total sanctions against Russia would rally the business community against Obama, so Republicans would be as impotent as the Europeans are currently being. Politically, Obama has to be more moderate than the neocons are calling for. The cartoon got it perfectly in regards to the neocons “Putin’s playing chess, we’re playing checkers” inanity.

At the present time, it appears almost EVERY “world leader” has a foot caught in their chairs, and the world needs a lot more straightjackets.

The premise is wrong. The joke, the insult to our collective intelligence, is our reaction. We do not need Russia getting stronger while we putz around with simplistic sanctions. Kerry says this is a “wake-up call” for Putin – what an embarrassment! Does anybody think Putin is going to back down on annexing Ukraine? Does he CARE what the rest of the world is going to say? Obama talks about this as an international incident as if we’re barely going to be affected. If Putin makes a move that does annex Ukraine, is Morin going to point out what a clever move he made?

Silent may have been too strong, 1953.However, the strongest words I’ve heard quoted have come from the Administration. My sources over the last week have been NBC, CBS, ABC, NPR, FOX, MSNBC, CNN, Al Jazeera, and One American News. On most US networks, the focus of the story is on how it effects the President’s image with ample comments from conservative politicians.I hope you are right and justice will be served, whether soon or a decade and a half from now, but don’t forget, the people who lost loved ones on KAL 007 never saw justice.“Never again”… until the next time.Respectfully,C.

It is good to read you, Martens.I fear Putin is a legend in his own mind. Analysts have indicated a desire within him to return Russia to the “prestige” he imagined it had during the cold war. History is full of those who felt they were more important than others, or circumstances. Is he one of those people who are willing to see the whole world end when he dies? I’m gone, why should I leave anything behind for the rest of you?I don’t know, but he,like North Korea’s President and a very few others, have the ability to light the fuse that ends civilization. This is why diplomacy is so important. So many want to shoot from the hip when it is much more important to shoot from the lip, and in doing so, create a peaceful AND just outcome.I just don’t know if our leaders anywhere on the planet are up to the task.I now have three grandchildren, Martens. 4, 4 months, and six weeks. What kind of world awaits them?Respectfully, C.
