I literally laughed out loud the first time I saw that ad. Did they even bother to run it past few kids first? They could’ve at least checked Urban Dictionary.
That’s what we call, an “In-FAD-uation.” That’s when a marketing team tries to appeal to today’s kids by making classic characters trendy or a movie or show about trendy things. In this case, it’s a commercial with rappers.
It would appear the McDonalds advertising agency has no employees of color on staff with whom they could have checked this out. Or maybe they did and those staff members let it go out the door just to embarrass McDonalds. If so, they succeeded admirably.
