    On the last day of advanced swim class in college, the instructor taught us diving. 95% of the class already knew how to dive. The other 5% consisted of myself. I belly flopped so hard off the starting block, not once, but 3 times before I submitted to painful defeat. My belly was pink for a week.

    Beautiful! I never expected to see the bridge in this context, so this is a very pleasant surprise. I love the vertigo inducing curvature. I remember when my favorite former Free Press columnist reported on visiting the top of the Mackinac Bridge. ( I loved reading her articles, still miss her.) This was a great one, as close as most of us will ever get to experiencing this thrill. Susan Ager: Atop Michigan, atop the world.

    Not afraid of heights but never had a desire to go any higher than the actual driving surface. Always happy to go north but sad to go south.
