Sorry, Joy. You missed the sale of his Blue Period stuff. They went really fast due to the mis-print referring to it as hisBluPers.

Actually, “Starving Artists” is a trademark!

They hold sales outdoors, at events, in hotel ballrooms, etc….Dunno if they still do this, but they used to even set up at gas stations… especially big corner lots.

The paintings are usually done by hand… true… but in assembly line fashion, in Asian sweatshops, dozens or hundreds at a time.

One person paints the blue sky; it’s passed to the next person who paints the clouds… next person the sun… then someone with green paint does the ground….then the tree painter, the red flower painter, the blue flower painter, etc…each person with only a few colors, who never needs to clean a brush. The last person signs a fake name that looks English or European.

Sometimes it’s one long roll of canvas that passes by a dozen people …oooh…. grey sky, black street, hasty black rectangles for tall buildings…dots of yellow for street lights… random splashes of color for neon….you’ve seen those in motels.

And yeah, at some sales you can get the “same” painting in a different color. For only $49.95!

True story: I was selling my abstract paintings during a street sale (many years ago). Someone looked at one of my paintings and asked if came in brown.

When does she bring out her “occasional” sofa pillows?

The clown pic they have has all the colors so he matches everything.

Joy has such an eye for art you know.

Ryan… there is one born every min. and the Penny’s were born a min. apart…….

Ryan… they used to ask that all the time in my vintage clothing store, too.

I spent hours cleaning, repairing, ironing…. sometimes even altering… clothing I’d scoured the state seeking.

A customer would hold up a forty-year-old dress .. probably the last of its particular lot to survive… and say “Can I get this in blue, in an 8?”

A woman who bought a real Victorian petticoat to wear at her wedding … it was over 75 years old even then, and that was … yipes… 40 years ago….called later in the week to try to order some for her bridesmaids.

My partner was having such a hard time not laughing, he couldn’t finish the call, and made me talk to her.

I guess she doesn’t understand what vintage means. WOW Nothing here for the Penny’s because there are no crown paintings or other tasteless junk to fit that house and the stuff is way out of their budget

…….Joy could say to the usual throng of visitors" “There’s a Petritus among us!!” and appear kinda-sorta psuedo-hip on the art scene…….

Does it come framed? Toss the picture and use the frame for a large clown picture.

@Orben, being the credulous person I am, and not knowing just how to interpret your comment, I had netver heard of an artist of that name, so I did a search:I only found a Loretta Petraitis and this is her abstract in red (that joy would want in blue)

You might even loosely interpret as a smiley face – it sold for $700 (to some poor fool).

And yes, I meant “never” (typo).
