Later on in life, Elizabeth befriends a girl in that sort of get-up if I recall. Candace, right?

When I was younger I met a woman who was wearing a t-shirt with an interesting saying on it. She became upset that I was a slow reader.

you are right Elizabeth, folks that dress in strange and unusual ways do want you to look at them, that is why they do it. They just want to draw attention to themselves because they think they are special. NOT

Have to be careful. Stare at the wrong person and it could set them off.

I will just quote Spock : Infinite Diversity Infinite Combination. I love people who love being diverse individuals. There is so much in nature, all the different flowers, birds, bugs, people.

Or maybe they just want people to stare at them.

From a church sermon:“Those who had the pleasure of watching Glenn Miller saw a rather ordinary looking man wearing wire glasses and a military uniform. They also saw a bandleader who could play the cornet like no one before or since. Others who stand out from the flock include Joe DiMaggio, Willie Mays, Rocky Bleier, Ernest Hemingway, Rosemary Clooney. They achieved individuality through EXCELLENCE. Some try to dye their hair unnatural colors such as pink, blue, orange. Others dress slovenly to gain attention to their cause. They somehow think mediocrity gains new credentials through external appearances. But someone who colors their hair purple is nothing more than the same person with a funny-colored head. The child who gets above average grades on his report card has somewhat grasped the concept of individuality. So has the Boy Scout who earned the high honor of Eagle Scout, the kid who can name all 50 States of the Union and their capital cities, or the little girl who can piroutte and plie beautifully. Those who wear tattered jeans, dog chains, or green mohawks are just along for the ride.”

A lot of intolerant people, here… My kid just liked to wear different creative stuff. She has tattoos on her arms, now — weeds out undesirable people who hold appearances above all. She also has a master’s degree and a professional job and is more self-supporting than many 20-somethings I know — and has always lived independently. The rest of you who still have your kids living with you expecting your standard of living without working should only be as lucky as I am…
