I remember thinking the song “Lookin’ Out My Back Door” had the line “Ann Marie’s an elephant” and that the main character of “That Girl” had wandered onto “Bewitched.” Later, I realized the lyric was “Tambourines and elephants.”

Another good one, misheard as: “Put the lime in the Coke, you nut!” (“Coconut”, Harry Nilsson) – And one by TLC (“Waterfalls”) misheard as: “Don’t go, Jason Waterfalls!….” - And a Pat Benatar one (“Hit Me With Your Best Shot”): “Hit me with your pet rock!….Why don’t you hit me with your pet rock!?…"

“Slow Uncle Walter/The fire engine guy” (supposed to be "Smoke on the water…A fire in the sky…), “Smoke on the Water” by Deep Purple… – “Tiny Dancer” by Elton John: “Hold me closer, Tiny Dancer”, (misheard as “Hold me closer, Tony Danza.” )…

Mine was from the Bonanza theme, as sung by Lorne Green on the B side of “Ringo”: “Hoss and Joe and Adam know / Every rock is mine!!” (should be “rock and pine”).

Sluggo, you need to stop listening to the Dr. Demento Show just before you go to sleep. (And yes, songs with those lyrics have been played on the Dr. Demento Show. ‘Bathroom On The Right’ is one of my favorites.)

Back in the day my Mom thought John Denver was singing “you build up my fences” (Annie’s Song, actually “you fill up my senses”) and that Frankie Valli was singing “my mind’s a torture” (My Eyes Adored You). She really cracked me up!

“Requesting quiet, requesting quiet” instead of “big boys don’t cry”, lol. I forget the name of the song, is it “We’re Not in Love”?

Whoa! Hearing impaired? Put any song from the good old days on the radio and I can sing the lyrics. Which I do all the time in the car.

Manfred Mann’s Blinded By The Light “Revved up like a deuce” sounds like “wrapped up like a douche.” My younger brother and his pals mis-heard “Two big horns” on Sam The Sham’s Wooly Bully as “2-Bit Whore.” ☺

My wife said growing up, she heard “Drift Away” by Dobie Gray as: “Give me the Pep Boys, to free my soul….” – And another version goes: “Give me the Beach Boys…” – Another one my wife jokes with me about, is “In Love With Love” by Debbie Harry, only because she says that when Debbie sings it, it always sounds like: “The lava lamp, the lava lamp, and that’s all….”

Also—“sometimes when we touch, the odyssey’s too much” is also heard as “sometimes when we touch, the artist sees too much—”—lol—
