Yes, “If my words offend . . . ,” it is absolutely horrible to think that those of us who are fortunate enough to have jobs and be able to contribute to the welfare of those less fortunate might actually want to do so. What a better country this would be if we would all continue to work as hard as we can to keep everything we can solely for ourselves because we know for sure that we earned everything we have completely on our own with no help from anyone else, and all of those people who are less well off than we clearly are lazy bums who just haven’t tried as hard as we have. Obviously every other developed country in the world must have it wrong to provide basic healthcare to their people because the statistics show how much better the health outcomes are in our wonderful system, right?
The rest of us with jobs have always paid for this through cost shifting and higher insurance premiums. Conservatives are all for personal responsibility (except for wealthy bankers) so you should be all for this. Its irresponsible not to have health insurance, and a burden on the rest of us.

If you think that the attrition of health care professionals started with ACA, you are sadly mistaken. It started in the early 1980s when insurance companies changed their business model: from accountants to pimps. Many of us decided to stick with our professions out of loyalty, or the desire to maximize our return-on-investment (time and tuitions), but most of us also realized at the time that we weren’t about to stay in it as long as we had originally planned.
I hardly can prescribe meds without having to get on the phone for at least 45 minutes to justify my choice to some non-doctor at an insurance company.
Every time there is a cost-reduction, it comes solely out of the doctors’ and hospitals’ pockets. Thanks to cost-cutting from the feds, and the sequestration, my reimbursement from Medicare and from Tricare has been reduced $23 per exam. How would you like to be faced with increasing costs, increasing back-seat driving, increasing responsibility, while enjoying lower pay?
Smart young minds are going into fields where their every move is not questioned, where they don’t have to worry about the possibility that one human mistake will cost them their careers, where they can get paid based on how they use their brains. And until the system changes, we will have the same problems finding people whose idealism trumps their desire to make a decent living. Good luck finding many of those.
The current system is based on nothing but numbers. Quantity is much more important than quality. If you see a patient three times because you can’t cure his malady, you get paid three times. If you fix it in one visit, you get paid once. This is the definition of insanity, and most smart people are not willing to join an insane system.
Single payer. It has its problems, too, but life-or-death decisions should not be dependent on profit.
Why are so many Republicans so set on watching poor people suffer and die from easily curable diseases and injuries? Isn’t compassion an American virtue? Only in blue states, apparently.

You are correct. I did not. I only addressed your point that implied that we are not properly supplied with health care personnel.
I did not address your other points because I agree with almost all of them, and felt you stated them as well as I could.
In the adversarial environment of political discussion, it is easy to lose sight of the fact that we can agree on a majority of points, while disagreeing on a few. It is easy for all of us (myself definitely included) to conclude that we are further apart than we truly are in many cases. I will attempt to remember to consider this in my future posts.
