My 53rd a couple months ago was definitely a better birthday than my 52nd – I was at Poudre Valley Hospital as a librarian instead of at Cheyenne Regional as a patient (increasing my chances of a 53rd by determining that something other than my heart was causing the crushing chest pain). After a day of good work, rehearsal and pie with my “And Then There Were None” castmates* at Cheyenne Little Theatre.

I never minded working on my birthday. It was better than being home alone because everyone was at work or school.
