How is this different than how press conferences were handled under the previous President?

Steve Kelley and Harley got punked! The Drudge Report reported this as though it was news, but it’s a completely false story. No reporters submit their questions in advance to the White House, and the cub reporter who said she did had to retract her story. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2014/03/20/no-reporters-dont-submit-questions-to-the-white-house-in-advance/

“Dictatorship is what you have when the President changes a law without going through congress.”

Say, for example, funding the Sandinistas in direct violation of the Borland Amendment, or trading arms for hostages? America seems to have a history of dictators, does it not?

I understand your point, which is somewhat off the subject from mine. But since you bring it up, I submit that what Mr. Reagan did with the Iranians at the time may have a lot more to do with where we 310 million Americans are in regards to relationships in the Middle East, especially with militant Islamists, than some of us are willing to admit.
