There is, but neither side is willing to do what is unpopular with their base in order to come up with a lasting solution.

Yes, there is a better solution. Make the tax base fairer, put more money into enforcement so larger corporations and one per centers don’t skip out as much and invest heavily and continually in infrastructure and education. Also reform the voting process so it is more inclusive, easier to access and more representative of the human, rather than corporate, population.

Several posters here have stated the right answer: spend less than you take in. This simple rule is something that even the most incompetent and least educated head-of-household has to learn early on. Somehow, most of them do. But not members of Congress, who should know better.

And here’s the problem: spending less will mean loss of jobs. Even if those jobs should never have been created, it doesn’t matter; jobs will be lost. No politician wants to be known as a job-killer. Therefore nothing will be done. Democrat, Republican, it makes no difference.

Nothing will be done, unless and until enough “representatives” choose to do the right thing, even if it will cost them an election. And therefore, I predict nothing will be done. Unfortunately, the only alternative is collapse and revolution (or coup). Too bad we can’t (or more probably won’t) see this for what it is.

Ironically, we’re only digging ourselves an even deeper hole.

“Both Democrats and Republicans have been ‘Kicking the can down the Road’ since 2007.”Disagreed. They’ve been kicking that can down the road for a couple of decades longer than that.

Thanks, Martens. Those who rail against Keynesian policy are often those who cheered loudest when we ran up huge deficits during prosperous years. The U.S. has had debt since the very beginning. Countries can and should plan on the idea that they can grow out of debt incurred during a recession. The GOP only preaches fiscal responsibility when there is a Democrat in the Oval Office.
