So of the do. We had a J-3 Cub on our field that the owner started it on the end of the runway (no electric system on a early Cub, so you have to start it by hand spinning the propeller), it then with no one aboard started down the runway, took off and flew out of sight. So they got in another plane looking for it fearing the worst, and found it about 20 miles away sitting in the middle of a hay field undamaged. So it just took off, flew, and landed all by itself with out any problems.
