We have had that experience. Now, before we travel, we phone the credit card company first to ask for their permission.

I had it happen to me in Hawaii. My bank left me a message on my land line answering machine despite my recorded message to call my mobile number to reach me. Not happy at the time!!!

He should have called customer service — it wouldn’t have even been long-distance.

When I went to Mumbai, I called the credit card company ahead of time to let them know what country I’d be in. Had no problems.

He should have called the bank to let them know he would be in Mumbai. I learned that after a transaction failed at work; the fellow was in Montreal for two days, went to Halifax for a business meeting, then came home to Saskatchewan an dtried to ue his credit card on the way home from the airport. All the machine said was, “TILT!” He called three hours later to say it was staightened out with the card company, then told me that their computers watch every transaction, and if there’s an apparent anomaly, they’ll freeze the card and call the customer’s home. Not the cell, ’cause that could be stolen too.

That happened to me last month in Florida. I live in Georgia (US). I go to that particular town in Florida about once a month. Go figure…

Yes, you don’t have to go very far for that to happen. We now call the credit card company when we are going to use our card for anything unusual. One phone call saves a lot of hassle.

Sounds like certain self-appointed gatekeepers for online discussions. They ask for my password, I give it, they say it is wrong. I try to register again, they say it is already in use. I am back to the punchline of today’s cartoon.

Not only that, but I can’t e-mail cartoons to my wife or friends or even our own e-mail address. They say they’re invalid. Anyone else have that problem?

3pibgorn9: I think more here have the problem than are saying. The question is, what can be done about it.
